Onkas Premiers Dominant Against Adelaide University (63-7)

Another milestone today, with 100 games for Jacob Croydon.

Onkas started with the kick-off heading south. Uni caught the kick and crashed the ball up before trying to go blind and then faked a kick. Onkas continued to hold Uni on their 22m with a solid defensive line, but Uni drew a penalty for offside, kicking it out on their defensive 40m. Uni took their lineout but an overthrow put them under defensive pressure and  they narrowly cleared but failed to make ground, being driven back to the 22m before a pass to the wing was intercepted by Tom D who ran through to score under the posts in the 2nd minute. Dusty’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 7 – Uni 0

The Uni kick fell to the Onka forwards who took the ball up, breaking through the line but ultimately knocking on. Onkas drove the scrum back, but Uni cleared and tried to pick but were driven back by Onkas. Uni drew a penalty for not releasing and kicked to their 22m. They overthrew their lineout but drew another penalty, kicking out just inside the 22m. Onkas almost stole the lineout but knocked on, leading to a Uni scrum. Onkas held several phases at the 22m until another overthrow, led to Tom D picking up the ball and running the length of the field to score under the posts. Dusty’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 14 – Uni 0

Uni kicked high and deep and Onkas recovered but knocked the ball on in the forward hit-up, leading to a Uni scrum just inside their 40m. A huge drive from Onkas put Uni under pressure in the scrum and the ball was rushed out and kicked, going out when Onkas tried to gather it.

Onkas received the free kick for not straight, kicking deep. Uni returned the kick and put the ball out just south of halfway.  Onkas set a good maul from the lineout and made some ground but gave away a penalty for obstruction. Uni kicked the ball out just outside their attacking 22m. Louie knocked the ball down from the lineout to Jayden. Cooper took the next hit and then Louie. Dusty kicked long and Uni retuned the kick. Marios gathered and despite slipping managed to knock two of the Uni players back and set the ruck on the 40m. Onkas ran several phases until Louie knocked back a player and made a break to the 5m. The ball was recycled quickly from the ruck and spun out to Rhys on the wing, who scored in the 15th min. Dusty’s conversion was successful.
Onka 21 – Uni 0

The kick went high and short and Uni knocked it back, eventually drawing an offside penalty and kicking out on the 5m. The lineout was not straight, and Onkas kicked the free kick and the Uni player knocked the ball back and over the line at halfway. Onkas won a scrappy lineout and pushed it wide with Isaac crashing it up. Onkas then spun it wide and made a break down the wing, getting pushed out on the 22m. Uni cleared with a kick from the lineout and Onkas returned up the middle with big hits from Caelan, Isaac and Marios. The ball was pushed to the wing, and Louie attacked the line drawing a penalty. Kaedan took a quick tap and passed out to Isaac who crashed over the line in the 21st minute. Dusty converted.
Onkas 28 – Uni 0

The Uni kick didn’t go ten, so play returned for a midfield scrum. George picked from the back and made a break, passing to Dusty who broke up the centre, being dragged down just before the 22m. Onkas went forward with a pick and drive and forward hits before pushing it out to Tom D who was tackled just inside the 22m. Jack took the next hit and Onkas drew an offside penalty, choosing to take a scrum. Onkas then crashed several forwards up before spinning it wide. Uni drew a penalty and kicked out just before the halfway line. The lineout was overthrown and Kaedan gathered at the back, passing the ball into the backline. Tom D found some space, stepping through the Uni defenders to score under the posts in the 28th minute. Dusty slotted the conversion.
Onka 35 – Uni 0

Onkas crashed forward off the kick with a big run from Isaac and Dusty kicked to space. The Onkas defence was up quick with good pressure and Uni scrambled to secure the ball. Solid Onka defence pushed them back, but Uni received a penalty for a high tackle. Onkas tried to keep the kick in and run, but the flag was up at the 22m. Uni knocked on from the lineout and Onkas recovered with Marios and Copper making big breaks before Dusty kicked deep. Uni recovered and broke a few tackles, making it to halfway. A big hit from George turned the ball over and Onkas made a break down the wing before losing the ball in a tackle, going to a Uni scrum on Uni’s defensive 22m. Uni cleared to their centres, but the Onka defensive line held, pinning Uni on the 22m and forcing a knock-on. Onkas won their scrum and drove 5m before passing to the backs. Dusty popped to Blake who broke the line and crossed to score in the 37th minute. Dusty’s conversion was successful.
Onka 42 – Uni 0

Uni won the contest on the high kick, knocking the ball backward and took the penalty for high tackle. They kicked out on their 22m, but Onkas stole the lineout and Dusty cleared with a kick. Uni recovered but George and Jacob tackled the player out for halftime.

HALF TIME: ONKAS 42 – Uni 0

The second half started with a Uni kick, which fell short but was caught by Jack who pushed forward. Dusty kicked deep and Uni managed to avoid the first tackle, but Blake crashed the runner out just after the halfway.

Onkas took a short lineout to Marios who crashed through two players and the ball was then taken forward by Isaac and Liam. Isaac hit again and passed to Rhys, with Onkas drawing an offside penalty on their 22m. Dusty kicked out on the attacking 5m. Onkas formed a maul from the lineout and Liam crashed over for the try. Dusty converted.
Onkas 49 – Uni 0

The kick went high and was knocked on by Onkas, who gave away a penalty at the scrum. Uni kicked out just past their 22m. Uni caught the ball in the lineout and passed it down onto their teammate’s head, who knocked it forward. Onkas received a free kick for not straight and kicked the ball out just before halfway. The ball spilled loose by Uni on the lineout, but they regathered and Onkas forced them back in the tackles but gave away an offside penalty. Uni kicked but Onkas kept it in, passing to Dusty who kicked deep, but play came back to the 5m for a forward pass scrum to Uni. A strong Onka drive put pressure on the Uni halfback. and Tom intercepted a pass, but play came back to a high tackle penalty just inside Uni’s 22m. Uni tapped but ran alone and Onkas got the penalty for not releasing. Dusty kicked deep to the halfway.

A solid lineout went to the backs, and Dusty made a break scoring under the posts and converted his try.
Onkas 56 – Uni 0

Another high kick was knocked on, and Uni set a scrum on their attacking 40m. Onkas drove the scrum back, but it was reset. A second scrum resulted in a short arm for the Onka prop pulling down. Onkas held strong in defence and were rewarded with a penalty that was kicked out on the 40m. The lineout went to the backs, and Tom B made a big break, and Onkas received a free kick. Tom D ran the ball up and passed to Troy who chipped a kick and was dragged out. Uni recovered the ball and Onkas drove them back to the 5m. They kicked out just outside their 5m.

The Onka lineout was overthrown, and Uni stole the ball, pushing it wide, but Onkas held them on the 22m, before a kick was smothered and went dead, leading to a 22 drop-out. The kick went deep to Brodie who passed to Isaac and then the ball was knocked on in the next phase, leading to a Uni scrum on their defensive 40m. Onka received a free kick from the scrum and tried to go wide but knocked on. Uni won their scrum and attacked, but Onkas knocked on in their defence and a Uni scrum was set on the 40m. Uni cleared but made little ground before knocking on at the 40m. Onkas won a penalty from their scrum, kicking out on just short of the 5m. A knock-on in the lineout gave Uni a scrum on their 5m and they kicked, the ball went out off an Onkas player on the 22m.

Uni’s lineout bounced off their jumper’s knees back to the hooker, but Uni got a penalty for Onkas closing the line. Brodie kept the ball in from the kick and passed it out wide. Isaac made a break in the centres and Onkas pushed forward, drawing a penalty for tackler not rolling away. The kick resulted in a line-out just outside the 5m. Onkas knocked on and Uni set a scrum, kicking out just inside the 22m.  Onkas lineout went to the backs and then out on the far side of the field. Uni kicked and recovered, making a break but stepping out on their defensive 40m. Onkas took a quick lineout, and Tom D tried a chip kick, but it went out on the full. Uni tried several pick and drives from the line, then some forward hits before getting a penalty for ruck player not supporting their own weight. The kick went out just inside their attacking 40m

Uni took a short line throw and then passed to their backs getting a penalty for offside. The kick went out just inside their 22m. Uni ran serval attacking phases but knocked on and Onkas cleared with a kick from the scrum to the 22m. Uni attacked again but Onkas held fast and James stole the ball, hitting it up and Dusty cleared with a deep kick. A good Onkas chase drew a penalty on their attacking 22m and Troy crashed over on the wing for a try, which Dusty converted.
Onkas 63 – Uni 0

Uni kicked high and the ball spilled to Onkas who gave away a penalty. Uni took the quick tap and broke down the wing, drawing another penalty. Another quick tap led to pick and drives and another penalty. Uni took another tap and again crashed in the forwards before diving over for a try as the last play.

Onka Women Get Solid Win over Adelaide Uni (46-0)

The Women had a ten-a-side game this week due to Adelaide Uni’s limited number of players. This reduced the game to 2x20min halves. This game was a milestone for Tori who played her 50th game.

Onkas took the kick-off, heading south. Uni knocked the ball backwards and good pressure from Kate and Jade P forced a loose ball. Jade W got the jackal, but Uni knocked it from her hands for a scrum. Despite a strong push from Onkas, Uni cleared the scrum and ran into the backs, hitting a solid wall of Danielle and Ashley. They tried to spin wide and Tori caught them, then back inside straight into Jade W. A good ruck by Caity freed the ball for Grace and the ball spun to the backs who knocked on.

From the scrum, Uni pushed out to their backs and scored a penalty for diving over. Uni made a quick break, but Kate brought the player down and Ashley stole the ball. Danielle picked and ran, making some ground and popping to Grace who scored on the wing just on the 3 ½ min mark. Conversion was unsuccessful.
Onkas 5 – Uni 0

Uni kicked the ball short to the backs, finding a gap. Kate scooped the ball and ran to the 40m, and the ball was passed out to Tori who crashed into the Uni line. Some good rucking got a clean ball to Jade P who split the centres and crossed for a try just before the 5min mark. Jade P’s conversion was successful.
Onka 12- Uni 0

Uni’s kick fell to Vron, who wrestled her way forward, then the ball pushed out to Tori who crashed her way up the centres. The ball popped loose and went back for a Uni scrum. Onkas defence held strong but gave away a penalty in the ruck. Uni opted to take the scrum and tried to push to the wing, but a big tackle by Kate stopped them on halfway. Uni threw a floating pass and Caity intercepted and ran the field to score just before the 8th minute. Jade P’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 19 – Uni 0

Uni’s kick was caught by Danielle, and the ball went to Kate who crashed through the line. A quick ruck spun the ball to Caity who smashed through the centres to score under the posts at the 10min mark. Ashley’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 26 – Uni 0

Uni kicked to Ashely. Ashley passed out to Grace, who charged up the field, but the Uni ruck was too fast, turning over the ball. Onkas defence held strong and Uni threw an overthrow and Ashley kicked the ball through. Onkas knocked on at the regather and Uni set the scrum. Onkas held strong in defence, until an injury to a Uni player stopped the game. Grace led a small dance party while they waited and then play commenced with a Uni scrum. Again, Uni made no ground but then received a penalty for tackler not releasing, which they opted to scrum. They tried to kick for line, and Shakira almost stole the ball but play went back for a Uni scrum. Again, Uni tried to kick from the scrum, but Ashley smothered it and Grace soccered it through and regathered for a try in the 20th minute. Conversion was unsuccessful and half time was called.

HALF TIME: Onkas 31 – Uni 0

Uni kicked off south, Kayla recovered and ran forward and then the ball was passed out to Isabelle who pushed through the line. Ashley picked from the ruck and made some ground, fighting her way through the opposition and then Isabelle crashed it up again. Uni managed to jackal and pushed the ball to their centres but made little ground against the Onka defensive line as they pushed the ball wing to wing with all Onka players tackling well for several phases and eventually Uni received a penalty on the 22m for Onkas not rolling away. Uni took the scrum and tried to pick from the back, but overthrew and the ball trickled out.

Onkas won the line, kicked deep and recovered the ball. Kate crashed the ball up and slipped it to Ashley who ran the field and scored. Jade P’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 38 – Uni 0

Uni kicked deep and Vron gathered, and Tori took the next hit. Jade kicked deep to space and Caity placed herself under the bounce to run through for the try at the 8min mark. Jade’s conversion was successful
Onkas 45 – Uni 0

The next kick went to Vron again and the ball popped back to Ashley who set the ruck and Onkas drew a penalty for high tackle. Onka’s kick went out at halfway.  Onkas won the lineout and passed out to the backs where Kate fought her way upfield and Onkas drew a penalty for Uni taking out the halfback. The kick went out on the 22m. Onkas won the lineout and pushed the ball wide, when a nasty Uni tackle lifted Shakira over the 90 degrees, giving Onkas a penalty on the 22 and Uni a yellow card. Onkas pushed it wide, but it was knocked on for a Uni scrum.

The Uni runners got flooded by Onkas and Vron stole the ball, popping to Tori who crashed forwards, but when Onkas tried to spin wide, the ball went out. Uni kicked out just past the 22m. Onka’s line out was not straight, giving Uni a free kick. Uni crashed forward but Onkas held solid, their only break was cut short when Shakira caught the player and dragged them down. Uni lost the ball forward but scored a penalty, which they took as a scrum. Again, Onkas held the defensive line on the halfway. A Uni player grabbed Grace by the hair and was yellow carded and Tori was carded for retaliation, and the game was called for full time.

Onkas Reserves Get Big Win Over Uni (60-10)

Onkas Reserves had a big win over Uni Reserves, with some big milestones – 150 games for Jake Moulder and three generations of Irvines running out (well it was Uncle, Dad and Son but let’s not let that ruin a good story).
