Onkas Take the Win in Barossa (27-12)
Onkas travelled up to Barossa to take on Barossa and keep their finals hopes alive.
Unfortunately, the filming of the game started late, missing the start of the game – picking up with Onkas crossing the tryline, but being pulled back for a forward pass just outside the attacking 22m.
Barossa ran from the back of the scrum and passed out to the backs. Good defensive pressure from Onkas caused loose ball and Onkas drew a penalty on the 22m in front of the posts. Onkas opted to take a scrum and were awarded another penalty when Barossa collapsed. Dusty took the penalty kick, which bounced from the post to go through for the 3 points.
Onkas 3 – Barossa 0
The Barossa kick fell short and came back for a scrum at midfield. Onkas kicked but the ball went out on the full, coming back for a lineout at halfway. Onkas got a hand to the ball, but Barossa knocked it down to their halfback. They pushed the ball to their backs, and the Onka defensive line speed forced a knock on. Caelan gathered the ball and George crashed through several players, making to the 40m. Caleb took the next hit and then Dusty flicked the ball out to Liam. After a crash from Marios, the ball was then spun to the backs, going to Caleb who made a break down the wing, taking the hit and passing to Brodie who stepped back inside and had his leg pulled out from under him. Cooper drove the next hit to the 22m, followed by Dilfy then the ball went wide, with Tom D and Tom B running up the wing and Onkas received a penalty for offside. The kick went dead and came back for a 22m drop-out. Caleb caught the kick at halfway and passed to George, then Jack who pushed through several defenders to the 40m. A quick chip by Dusty bounced up for Caelan who dived over for the try on the wing. Dusty’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 10 – Barossa 0
The kick went deep to Copper, who took it forward and, after a hit by Louie, Dusty kicked to the 22m. A big chase by Blake almost stole the ball, but Barossa went forward. Their big prop broke the line and made it to the 22m before passing off. Onkas scrambled and made the tackle, resetting their defensive line. Onkas held Barossa on the 22m for several phases, before a couple of breaks saw Barossa draw a penalty just inside their 22m for offside. The took the tap to their prop who was brought down before the 5m and Barossa managed to find some space on the wing to cross over for a try. The conversion was unsuccessful.
Onkas 10 – Barossa 5
The kick went long and high and Onkas chased up and forced a knock on just outside the 22m. The ball went wide from the scrum but was knocked on in the centres for a Barossa scrum. The Barossa 8 ran with the ball but was brought down and Barossa drew a penalty for tackler not rolling away. The kick went out on the 22m and Barossa knocked their lineout loose, being pushed back to the past the 40m. Onkas held them back until the game was halted due to a series ankle injury to Liam, restarting in a scrum to Barossa.
Barossa took the ball to the wing, making it to their attacking 40m before being brought down in a solid tackle. Good Onka defensive pressure forced the ball back to the other 40m where it rolled loose. Barossa retained possession and eventually kicked. Blake recovered and went forward, and Onkas kicked but came back for an Onka penalty for a ruck infringement on halfway. Dusty’s kick went out just before the 22m. Onkas set the maul from the line, pushing to the 22m and then breaking rom the back. A misthrow turned over possession but a good tackle by Brodie stopped a Barossa break on the wing. Barossa hit a few more phases, but solid Onka defence drew a penalty. Dusty kicked out just before the 5m. Onkas set another maul and Louie and Marios crashed over for a try. Dusty’s conversion was unsuccessful.
Onkas 15 – Barossa 5
The kick went high and was taken by Cooper., but Barossa received a penalty for not-releasing and tapped quickly, getting another penalty for Onkas tackler not releasing. Onkas defence held for several phases on the line, holding up the try attempt. The goal-line dropout was caught by Barossa just past the 40m. They attacked for a few phases, crossing their 40m until Onkas got a penalty. The kick was caught by a Barossa player, who was brought down on the halfway. Barossa continued to attack, eventually kicking. Barossa received a penalty for offside on their attacking 40m. Barossa took the tap but a big tackle by Marios and Dilfy forced a knock-on at the back of the ruck. Onkas kicked deep from the scrum and Barossa returned the kick, which was caught by Dusty, who stepped the first defender and passed out to Tom D who kicked deep and, under pressure from the Onka chasers, the Barossa defender knocked the ball out just inside Onkas attacking 22m. Onkas mauled from the lineout. Kaedan flicked the ball to Dusty who popped to Tom D and the looped around to receive the ball again. He flicked it to Blake who drew his defender and popped the ball up to Tom B on the wing, who crashed over for a try. Dusty’s conversion was successful.
Onkas 22 – Barossa 5
Barossa’s kick weas caught by Marios and Onkas received a penalty for diving over. The kick went out at halfway and after the lineout Dusty kicked. Barossa tried to run wide but were stopped by Onkas and forced to kick, but Onkas knocking on in the attempt to regather. From the scrum, Barossa pushed to the centres but were penalised for not releasing. The kick went out on the 22m. Onkas knocked the ball back and Kaedan regathered, passing to Dusty to passed to Tom D and then Caelan and Tom B on the wing. Tom kicked the ball along the ground and almost recovered it, but Barossa dived on it and halftime was called.
HALF TIME: Onkas 22 – Barossa 5
The second half started with a Barossa kick which was caught but stolen at the ruck, then Onkas received a penalty for Barossa not releasing. Dusty kicked out to halfway. The ball pushed to the backs and then was kicked long. Barossa kicked high and managed to reclaim in the air, kicking again. This time Brodie caught it and the ball fell loose with Blake diving on it with Onkas getting a penalty for high tackle. The kick was caught at the 22m and Barossa made a break back to halfway where they were caught by a wall of red. Another push to the far wing, led to a break to the attacking 40m and an Onka turnover and scrum. George took the ball from the back of the scrum, crashing through the defence and another penalty for Onkas. The kick went out at the 22m. Onkas tried a quick front ball, but it was knocked on and Onkas received a penalty. The kick went out just before the 5m. An overthrow at the lineout fell to Barossa a scrum for an Onka knock-on. Barossa then knocked on attack leading to an Onka scrum just outside the 5m in front of the goals. A good scrum led to the ball pushing wide to Tom B, who scored on the wing.
Onkas 27 – Barossa 5
Baross kicked to Caleb who charged up and Marios took the next hit before the ball was sent to the backs, but trickled out of bounds from an overthrow. Barossa made a break from the lineout but Onkas stole the ball at the ruck and kicked it deep. Big tackled by Tom D, Brodie and Caelan kept Barossa in their 22m until they kicked. Caelan caught the ball and Kaedan box-kicked but was caught after the kick and Barossa gathered. Onkas recovered the ball with a strong counter-ruck. Onkas continued to crash forward, making it to the 22m and drawing a penalty. Onkas opted to take the scrum. Kaedan ran from the back, going blind but was forced out. Drom the lineout Barossa kicked and Brodie caught the ball, but his foot touched the line, for a lineout on Barossa’s defensive 40m. Louie stole the ball from the lineout with a knockdown and Onkas attacked again but knocked on to a loose pass.
Barossa attacked again from the scrum and were held up in the middle of the field and Onkas received the scrum. Dusty kicked and Barossa returned with a chip that was caught on Onkas attacking 40m. Onkas went forward again with some big hits but were penalised for not releasing. The kick made no ground, crossing the line on Onkas attacking 40m. Barossa took the line at the front and then made a break up the centres and passed to the backs where they received a penalty for a high tackle. The kick went out on their attacking 22m. They again took the ball the front of the lineout and spun wide and knocked on when they tried to come back to the near side. The kick went deep and was knocked on by Barossa at the halfway. Another kick from the scrum was put down by Barossa over the tryline and went back for a goal-line dropout.
Barossa recovered the high kick and chipped to their winger who tried another chip but put the ball out on the full at halfway. Onkas mauled from the lineout and drove 10m to the past the 40m before chopping. The ball fell to a Barossa player who counter attacked and chipped, looking like he might score before Blake dived in the ball, securing it and drawing a penalty for Onkas. The kick went out at halfway.
Onkas attacked several phases in the forwards, before a tackle knocked the ball loose and Barossa picked it up, making a break. Solid Onka defence forced a not releasing penalty as Barossa tried to spread the ball wide. The kick went out just past halfway.
A clean lineout led to another mail and then a Dusty kick deep. The bounce forced the defender back and a great chase by Onkas put Barossa on the backfoot on the 5m. Barossa ran a few hits before kicking. Dusty caught the ball and it was spun wide but ended with a Barossa scrum on the 40m. Onkas drove the scrum back and received the penalty, kicking out on the 22m. Barossa stole the line, crashing forward but losing the ball on the wing. Play came back for Onkas offside. Barossa took the penalty tap with their big prop crashing through. He was eventually brought down but popped to a back who chipped over the top. Blake recovered and kicked back. Barossa pushed wide and made a break from the ruck running to score under the posts.
Onkas 27 – Barossa 12
Onkas kicked high and charged up, contesting but knocking on. A huge scrum drive stole the ball and Onkas drew a penalty for an infringement in the next ruck, kicking the ball out to end the game.

Onka Women Too Good for Burnside in a Seesawing Game (43-36)
Onkas Women took on Burnside at Womma Park (Elizabeth) for a blockbuster clash. Burnside were coming off the back of a win against Souths and that made this a battle for top spot.
The game started with Onkas kicking north. Burnside knocked on from the kick off, giving Onkas a scrum just before their 22m. The ball came out the back of the scrum and Onkas pushed to the wing and crashed up in the forwards before giving away a penalty for diving over. Burnside kicked out on the 40m. From the lineout, Burnside attacked up the centre and then spun the ball out to the wing. Onkas defence held well as Burnside made some big hits, passing from wing to wing and eventually knocking on. Play came back for an Onkas offside at halfway. Burnside kicked out at the 40m.
Burnside threw the lineout long and popped down to their centres who crashed up, and received a penalty for offside. Burnside kicked out on the 22m. From the lineout, Burnside hit up in the centres and then went wide. A pass hit their player’s foot and went forward and Onkas recovered, kicking deep. Burnside collected the ball at halfway and attacked again, first in the centres and then finding space on the wing where they crossed for a try.

Onkas restarted with a short kick that Burnside caught, but Onka’s defence were quickly on the player. From the ruck, Burnside threw a wild pass that their runner had to dive to catch. Onkas almost stole the ruck, but Burnside got it out, attacking in the centres and forwards. A big hit by Grace set up Tori for the counter-ruck and she ripped the ball and took it forward. A loose pass looked like Burnside might get the steal, but Danielle managed to pull it clear and Jade kicked a long grubber. Shakira and Kate caught the receiver, but Burnside managed to sneak the ball free. Danielle jackalled the next ball giving possession back to Onkas. Tori crashed it up and then the ball went to Kayla who powered through several defenders. Onkas put together a few good attacking phases until an overthrow on the wing trickled out. Burnside won their lineout and pushed the ball wide, zigging between the defenders and scoring under the posts.
Onkas 0 – Burnside 10
Onkas kicked high and Burnside missed the catch, taking the ball on the bounce. Onkas tackled the receiver. The next hit was from the Burnside prop who was held up and a maul was created. Onkas held firm and received the scrum. From the scrum the ball went to the backs and was passed back inside to Leah C on a switch. Onkas continued the attack but a pop from the ground went a player in front of the ball and Burnside received the penalty, kicking out at the 40m. From the lineout, Burnside went back to the centres and then pushed wide. They made some good ground but Onkas defence received the penalty for Burnside playing on the ground, kicking out on their attacking 22m. Onkas mauled from the lineout and then Grace crashed up from the back of the maul. A series of quick passes found Leahi P who drew several defenders and the passed to Kate who powered over the line for a try.
Onkas 5 – Burnside 10
Burnside’s kick was gathered by Kate and then out to Charlotte who crashed up. Kayla took a hit up in the backs and the Leah P kicked the ball deep. Onkas chased up on the receiver but gave away a penalty for high tackle just past the halfway. The Burnside kick went out on the 40m. Burnside pushed to their backs and then attacked in the forwards, getting a penalty for an Onka tackle without arms. The kick went out just before their 22m. The lineout throw went over the top and looked to be knocked on by Burnside, but they regathered and attacked. Onkas defence drew a penalty for Burnside not releasing and kicked out on their attacking 40m.

Grace took a quick tap and dived over the line for the equaliser.

The Burnside kick was caught by Cheyenne and the ball then spun to Grace for a crash ball. Onkas continued the attack through a big hit from Kayla, but the next ruck was jackalled, and Burnside went on the attack on their attacking 40m. A good tackle by Kate brought the ball carrier down and Shakira intercepted the next pass – running from the 40m to score the try under the posts and give Onkas the lead. Jade P’s kick was successful.
Onkas 17 – Burnside 10
The Burnside kick went forward from an Onka foot and was regathered by Burnside. Onkas jackalled the ball but were penalised for a high tackle.
The kick didn’t go out, and Onkas crashed back up through Leah P and Grace, drawing a penalty for Burnside diving over. The kick went out just past Onka’s defensive 40m. Onkas cleared the lineout with a long throw that was taken at the back by Cheyenne. Kayla made a break in midfield powering through the opposition. Onkas spun to the wing and then after a few forward crashes drew a penalty for Burnside offside. The kick went out inside the 22m. A messy line out was lost to Burnside who kicked out on the 40m. Onkas took the lineout and passed to Danielle who crashed through the centres and then Jade P put in a chip kick that was recovered by Burnside on their 22m. Leah P caught the receiver and solid Onka defence forced a loose ball and kick. Kayla caught the ball on the run and Onkas went on the attack again. Jade P passed out to Leah P who slipped a defender and passed to Shakira to made it to the 5m before being caught. Onkas support was there and the ball passed out to Caity who crashed over the line by the posts. Leah’s conversion was successful and halftime was called
HALFTIME: Onkas 24 – Burnside 10
The second half started with Burnside kicking north. The kicker missed the ball, and Onkas received the scrum on halfway. Burnside received a penalty from the scrum and took a tap. They attacked for several phases before chipping through and recovering. They tried to go wide but Onkas stole the ball and went on the counter. Jade P kicked a grubber through and Burnside recovered on halfway, with Danielle jackalling the receiver and stealing the ball. Onkas crashed forward and drove through a ruck, but the ball was caught up and Burnside stole it, running down the wing then cutting back inside. Caity chased the runner and tried to drag her down but caught the player’s hair. This led to a penalty try and Caity being yellow carded.
Onkas 24 – Burnside 17
Onkas took a quick kick and Burnside pushed to the wing, dropping the ball in attack. Onkas played on and pushed to the backs with Danielle, Kate and Kayla making good ground. Crashes by Grace and Issabelle opened space on the wing and Kate dived over for a try.
Onkas 29 – Burnside 17
Burnside’s kick fell to Olivia who passed to Jade P. Onkas continued the attack but were penalised for playing the ball on the ground midway between the 40m and 22m. Burnside opted to take a scrum. Onkas drove well, but the number 8 picked from the back of the scrum and managed to split the defensive line, scoring by the posts.

Onkas kicked deep and Burnside knocked on, leading to an Onkas scrum just before the 22m. Onkas held firm and won the scrum passing wide, but a loose pass was intercepted, and the Burnside player ran the length of the field to steal the lead.
Onkas 29 – Burnside 31
Another deep kick-off spilled loose, but Burnside recovered and came forward, bring caught by Grace and Allanah. The defensive pressure forced a knock-on, and Onkas took a scrum just outside their 22m. Another good scrum from Onkas led to a backs ball, but an overpass fell loose and was gathered by Leah C. Onkas pushed quickly to the wing and broke the Burnside line several times, crashing to the 5m. A couple of good forward hits let the ball push wide to an overlap and Shakira dove over on the wing putting Onkas back in the lead.
Onkas 36 – Burnside 31
Burnside’s kick fell short and Onkas took a scrum on halfway. A loose throw on the wing was almost stolen, but Onkas drew a penalty. Onkas kicked to the 40m and went wide from the lineout. Burnside stole the ball, but play was halted for an injured Burnside player. The restart was a Burnside scrum at halfway on the wing. Onkas drove well but Burnside cleared, spinning the ball wide quickly. They made a break up the wing and scored, levelling the scores.

Onkas kicked high and the ball bounced out just past the 40m. Burnside cleared the lineout and attacked up the centre but knocked the ball on. Leah P pounced on it and got a quick pass out to Danielle who drew two attackers and passed to Kate who crossed and scored by the posts.
Onkas 43 – Burnside 36
Burnside’s kick fell short and Onkas gave away a penalty for pulling down in the scrum. Burnside opted for another scrum. Onkas won the scrum and kicked deep. Burnside recovered and kicked. Shakira caught the ball and went forward, with Leah P attacking on the wing. Onkas were penalised for not releasing and Burnside kicked out just outside the 22m. Caity got a hand to the ball in the lineout and forced a Burnside knock-on. Onkas won the scrum and went to the centres with Danielle switching with Kate who took the ball past the 22m. Onkas received a penalty for offside and kicked out on the 5m. Onkas formed a maul and then went wide almost crossing the line. Burnside managed a steal on the line and kicked deep. Onkas recovered and hit up, but the ball was stolen again. Burnside knocked on in the ruck and full time was called.

Onkas Reserves In Solid Win Over Barossa (24-12)
After a tough game last week, the Onkas B Grade showed their strength this week with a solid win over a strong Barossa team, 24-12.

Onka Third Grade Start Strong but Go Down (24-52)
Onkas thirds struggled with numbers this week but came out strong with guest appearances from Daniel Taylor and Seb Rivett. The Thirds fought hard all game, but ultimately ran out of steam. A decent result for a game that was looking to be a forfeit – taking the attack to Barossa and claiming the bonus point.
